How do I Make an Old Bathtub Look New Again

Nothing more unpleasant than a sink with chipped enamel or a bathtub with rust stains, which no cleaning powder can remove. Fortunately, you can make your old bathtub look new again, with much lower costs than those needed to buy a brand new product.

How to proceed

Before enameling, the bathtub must be cleaned well, with a abrasive paper (sandpaper) and a rough brush to obtain a very rough surface. Then, rinse it with plenty of water and allow it to dry (for a faster drying, you can use a hair dryer or a radiator).

Enameling must be done with a special product that has two components: the paint itself and a hardener. Mix the two components well according to the instructions on the package. The enamel you obtain should be applied with an ordinary brush, in three layers: the first layer is applied vertically, the next one - horizontally, and finally, the third layer is applied vertically again. Once a layer has been applied, it must be allowed to dry before applying the next one. When you are done with applying all 3 layers, you must allow the bathtub to dry completely for another 48 hours before using it normally.

If you decide to skip these steps and update your bathroom completely, schedule time with the design pros at Christopher's Kitchen and Bath.
